Ohan Breiding – Photographe, vidéaste et artiste plasticien
Face à l’état d’urgence climatique, Ohan Breiding est retourné dans la maison de son enfance en Suisse proche du désormais fantomatique glacier du Rhône. Chaque printemps, les habitants d’Obergoms tapissent 5 hectares du glacier de couvertures thermiques pour le protéger de la hausse des températures. Malgré cela, le glacier, qui relie les Alpes à la Méditerranée devrait disparaitre d’ici 2050. L’installation photographique monumentale Belly of a Glacier (Dans le ventre d’un glacier) crée un panorama qui traduit un « hyperobjet » via 111 images de glace fondante, de tissus dégradés, d’archives photographiques familiales, d’animaux qui dépendent des eaux du glacier et du corps de l’artiste en transition, explorant la relation entre humains, animaux et glaciers.
In response to the climate emergency, Ohan Breiding returned to their childhood home in Switzerland, close to the now ghostly Rhone glacier. Every spring, the inhabitants of Obergoms cover 5 hectares of the glacier with thermal blankets to protect it from rising temperatures. Despite this, the glacier, which links the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea, is set to disappear by 2050. The monumental photographic installation Belly of a Glacier (To dress a wound from what shines from it) creates a panorama that translates a “hyperobject” via 111 images of melting ice, degraded fabrics, archival family photographs, animals that rely on the glacier’s waters and the artist body in transition, exploring the relationship between humans, animals and glaciers.
